Wabash Township is requesting that $750,000 be allocated to Wabash Township Fire Department (WTFD) for budget year 2027.
Of that amount, $375,000 will be utilized to add a sixth (6th) firefighter to each of our three (3) shifts. That will allow our department to be better staffed, and will reduce the strain of our growing run volume on our existing personnel.
The second $375,000 will be utilized to help the Township pay for the cost of purchasing a ladder truck and a pumper tanker in the coming years. By reducing the amount of debt that the Township must take for the purchase of these two trucks, which will cost a combined $3.6 million, the Township will be able to reduce the amount of property taxes that they must collect for this purpose.
Run Volume: Over 50% increase from 2022 to 2026 (5+ calls per day today)
Each full-time firefighter is going on twice the number of runs than firefighters in neighboring departments
